In light of the rise of “agentic commerce,” we have invested in Very Good Security, a company building the infrastructure that powers payments and secure data flows in the age of AI agents, alongside multiple global investors. The company is backed by top-tier investors including Andreessen Horowitz, Goldman Sachs, Vertex Ventures US, and Visa.
Very Good Security provides infrastructure that enables enterprises and AI agents to handle sensitive payment data such as credit card numbers without storing it themselves, using tokenization to securely process and transmit data. This architecture allows companies to build and scale products without taking on the burden of handling sensitive data directly, which we believe will become a critical foundation in the AI agent era.
As AI agents begin to autonomously execute purchases and payments, the era of “agentic commerce” is emerging. Efforts toward payment standardization are accelerating, including Google’s Agent Payments Protocol, AP2, and initiatives such as the Unified Commerce Protocol, UCP, proposed by Stripe. Very Good Security, as a partner in Visa Intelligent Commerce, works closely with card networks to provide the tokenization infrastructure that enables agentic payments in production environments. We believe the company is well positioned to become a core infrastructure layer, a trust layer that allows AI agents to execute payments securely.
CEO Chuck Yu previously led product and business development initiatives at Visa, with deep involvement in both the strategy and implementation of global payment networks. CTO and co-founder Marshall Jones has led the design and development of VGS’s core tokenization and data security architecture since inception. Together, they form a team with strong execution capability across both financial infrastructure and product engineering.
At this pivotal moment, as agentic commerce begins to take shape globally, we believe Very Good Security has the potential to become a central player in next-generation payment and data infrastructure. We are excited to support the company on this journey. (Lead: Ogawa)
